Of course not.

That doesn't meant though that there aren't racists out there who are opposed to Obama. Criticism of an African-American is not racist necessarily.

It may not have been rooted in racism, but it definitely supports racist ideals and supports the formation of new racist ideals.

Absolutly not. Joe was just stating a truth so many believe and wouldnt say. His timing was a little off but.....All of a sudden everything turns into race. obama is not black or white he's suppose to be president

Robert, I was using the Monsanto stuff as an example because he had total control over that decision and it shocked many of his supporters, at least the ones I know. The overall point I was trying to make is that there seems to be a very different President than candidate and I was curious how much peoples trust has changed based on things over the past few months. Wilson was being a jerk, which I expect of politicians (the one area where I maintain cynicism).

Pushing through the health bill with the abortion language would also seem to directly contradict what one would have expected from both the President and his party. We could go on, remember ending division in Washington, transparency, bills available 72 hours before voting, etc.

Thanks for the link on the Monsanto/Pest issue.

Paul,
Obama has made and continues to make some decisions that are very disturbing for one reason and another. However, I think a claim that the Monsanto/Pest appointments somehow bear out Joe's statement is a stretch even without an attempt to give Obama credit for the abortion amendment added to the insurance bill in the house.

Those interested in doing something about the Mont/Pest appointments can go here...not that it will necessarily change anything. One can only try.

I have great respect for the many good things that President Carter has done since leaving office, particularly Habitat for Humanity. He also is the rare politician that may actually be genuine. That said, he, like all people, is fallible. If we had listened to him, we would not be where we are today. But, in my opinion, that is because we would never have had the twenty years of growth that preceded the collapse.

Joe Wilson may have racist tendencies, I don't know. I would not be shocked if he does, but I don't believe that was his primary motivation.

Here's a suggestion for a poll question:

Since Joe Wilson first yelled out the comment, "You Lie", have you become more or less convinced that his inappropriately yelled out statement was incorrect?

Somebody can word it better, but after appointments of people from Monsanto and the pesticide lobby, banning of private health insurance coverage for abortion in the House Health Bill, and the lack of transparency in advance of the passage of legislation, there are those who are still strong supporters that may not feel as confident about Joe Wilson's statement being wrong.

Not to say, he should have yelled out, but there is a noticeable change in the trust of the new President. If he doesnt' address that issue, he, and we, will have even bigger problems. Just my opinion.

If we had listened to Carter when he told the truth to the nation we would not be where we are today. Instead you chose the soap salesman B movie actor with the nice smile. Great choice. Its after all fine to have an actor in politics as long as he's right wing right?

I can't believe this poll is still going on. Who cares about what Carter, one of THE WORST presidents of all time, says to try to stir up trouble? Get a life...
